MARLBOROUGH, MA: The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey took on the Rivier University Raiders on Friday evening in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) conference matchup at the New England Sports Center.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, February 10, 2023
  • Score: Rivier 0, Anna Maria 4
  • Records: Rivier 6-12-2 (2-2-2 ECHA) | Anna Maria AMCATS 3-15-2 (2-3-1 ECHA)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS put together their most complete game of the season, playing a full 60 minutes and scoring in all three periods.
  • Freshman defender Morgan Daly (Media, PA) opened the evening scoring just under 12 minutes into the first period when she found herself wide open just inside the right-hand faceoff circle and fired a wrist shot off a cross-ice pass from junior forward Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS) from the left corner. Daly's shot continued to rise the entire way until hitting the back of the net. Sophomore Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC) was also credited with an assist.
  • Daly doubled the AMCATS lead with just over 12 minutes expired in the second period when she put home the rebound on a shot from freshman forward Orla O'Driscoll (Quincy, MA). Driscoll and junior forward Shayla MacDonald (Victoria, BC) both posted assists.
  • Less than two minutes later Sammons pushed the AMCATS lead to three when she made the most of a miscommunication between two Raiders defenders in their own end and found herself with the puck on the end of her stick directly in front of the net and went top shelf over the goalie's left shoulder. Senior forward Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) was credited with the assist.
  • With just under five minutes gone in the final period, freshman Tessa Henry (Milestone, SK) put a bow on the AMCATS scoring when she uncorked a shot from the left point that found its way through the traffic in front of the net. MacDonald and senior defenseman Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) had the helpers.
  • Freshman goaltenders Aurora Vanwormer (Swift Current, SK) stopped all 13 of the shots that she faced and recorded her first collegiate win and shutout, improving her record on the season to 1-1-0.
