Dodge Doubles Up as Women’s Ice Hockey Down Minutewomen 2-1

AMHERST, MA: The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey took on the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen on Friday evening in an exhibition matchup at the Mullins Center Practice Rink.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, February 17, 2023
  • Score: Anna Maria 2, UMass 1
  • Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 5-15-2 | UMass Minutewomen 11-9-1

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS wasted very little time getting on the scoreboard when senior forward Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) put home a shot out of a scrum in front of the Minutewomen's crease 3:46 into the first period. Senior defenseman Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) and junior forward Angelina Rodriguez (Corona, CA) were credited with the assists.
  • The score would remain 1-0 until Dodge scored her second tally of the night with just over 13 minutes remaining in the third period. The Minutewomen attempted to dump the puck into the AMCATS defensive zone but instead sent it directly to waiting senior forward Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) who quickly sent a cross-ice blue line to blue line pass ahead to a streaking Dodge who skated into the left-hand faceoff circle and fired off a wrist shot before the UMass defenders could get back into position. Her shot went in just under the crossbar on her near side.
  • With the goalie pulled and under a minute left in regulation, the Minutewomen could finally light the lamp with a goal of their own. After a scrum of a faceoff, the Minutewomen's Brianna O'Neill came away with the puck down under the end line as Nicole Loftus crashed to the front of the net. O'Neill sent the puck through traffic to Loftus who was able to get a shot over freshman goalie Aurora Vanwormer's right shoulder.
  • Vanwormer (Swift Current, SK) stopped 31 of the 32 shots she faced.
