Bleaney Leads Women’s Ice Hockey Past Monarchs

PITTSTON, PA: The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team won 3-1 at King's College (Pa.) on Friday evening at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston, Pennsylvania.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, January 28, 2022
  • Score: Anna Maria 3, King's 1
  • Records: Monarchs of King's College 1-17 | AMCATS of Anna Maria 6-8

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Down 1-0 at the start of the second period, the AMCATS snatched the equalizer just 47 seconds in when Anna Maria freshman forward Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC) scored her fourth goal of the season, tying for the team's lead. The assist went to last week's Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) Rookie of the Week, freshman forward Raven Carriere (Labroquerie West, MB). Midway through the third period with the game still tied, it was again Bleaney finding the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season, assisted by senior forward Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) and junior defender Jacqueline Howlett (North Haven, CT).
  • With eight seconds left in the game, Cote scored the insurance goal on an empty netter, good for her fifth goal of the year to tie Bleaney for the team lead.
  •  Anna Maria junior goaltender Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) was dominant in net, stopping 29 of 30 shots on goal.
