Lancers Squeak Past Women’s Ice Hockey 3-2 In ECHA Championship

WORCESTER, MA. – The Anna Maria Women's Ice Hockey team traveled down the road to the Worcester Ice Center to face off against the Lancers of Worcester State in the 2022-2023 ECHA Championship game. The AMCATS lost the game 3-2.

The AMCATS battled hard with the Lancers throughout the first however Worcester was the first team on the board with a goal late in the period putting the lancer up 1-0 after twenty minutes of play.

After regrouping in between periods the AMCATS came out flying with an early power play goal from Olympia Myers (Grimsby, ON) just under two minutes into the period. Now tied up at one, the AMCATS built up some momentum scoring their second goal of the game, nine minutes into the second period. The goal came from Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) assisted by Alyssa MacDonald (Nanaimo, BC) and Shayla MacDonald (Victoria, BC)

A late goal from Worcester State with under a minute left on the clock tied the game up at two points a piece going into the final period.

With both teams going back and forth throughout the third period. The Lancers broke the tie with nine minutes left to play in the third. Anna Maria fought hard to tie the game back up but could not find the back of the net. The Lancers closed the game out leading over the AMCAT 3-2.

Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) held down the fort for the AMCATS posting 43 saves on 46 shots in the matchup.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sam Dahill concluded her senior season at Anna Maria with a 1.87 GAA and a .950 SV% in 16 games played. Sam played 31 career games for the AMCATS collecting an impressive GAA of 2.22 and SV% of .939 throughout her career as an AMCAT.
  • Zach Perkins finished out his first season as Head Coach with a record of 7-16-2.

Anna Maria women's ice hockey will be back in action next winter.
