Women’s Hockey Draws With Falcons, Ends In Shootout Win

WORCESTER, MA. – On Friday, November 3rd the Anna Maria Women's Ice Hockey team hosted the Albertus Magnus Falcons at the Buffone Arena in Worcester, MA. The AMCATS tied the game 2-2 with a shootout win.

The AMCATS opened the scoring up early when Carissima Heinis capitalized on a rebound from Carly Drew just six minutes into the first period. The AMCATS would then hold onto their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first period as well as the whole of the second period. Megan Tegethoff stopped 21 shots in the first two periods to help the AMCATS hold onto their lead. 

Heinis got the scoring started yet again in the third period burying her second goal of the game just under three minutes into the period. Leading 2-0 over the Falcons, the AMCATS held onto the lead for the next eight minutes before the Falcons found the back of the net for their first goal of the evening, cutting the AMCATS lead in half. With just over two minutes left to play, the Falcons managed their second goal of the game tying things up. The late goal pushed the game into overtime where both teams would stay scoreless for a 2-2 tie. 

Following the five minute overtime, the game moved onto a shootout. The Falcons opened things up with a goal from Molly Martin but August Otto returned the favor for the AMCATS giving both teams one goal a piece. Kayla Clark would be next in line for the Falcons with Megan Tegethoff holding down the fort in net for the AMCATS. Ceili Nolan went second for the AMCATS getting stopped by the Falcons goaltender. Still tied 1-1, the Falcons third shooter couldn't get passed Tegethoff giving the AMCATS the opportunity to take the shootout win. Olympia Myers would be the decision maker for the AMCATS burying the second goal of the shootout. The game would end with the AMCATS taking home the shootout win.
