WPI Defeats Anna Maria 59-42 in Season Opener

WORCESTER, MA - On November 10, 2023, the Anna Maria College women's basketball team took on the WPI Engineers for the Worcester City Tip-Off tournament. The Engineers team defeated the AMCATS with a final score of 59-42. The win marked the season opener for both teams.

The game started off with a strong performance from Anna Maria, who took an early lead in the first quarter with a score of 15-13. However, WPI quickly turned things around in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 12-4 and taking a 25-19 lead into halftime.

WPI continued to dominate in the second half, with their offensive and defensive efforts contributing to a 34-12 run in the third quarter. This put the game out of reach for Anna Maria, as WPI extended their lead to 50-27 heading into the final quarter.

Adrianna Niles led the scoring for WPI, finishing the game with 17 points. She had an impressive shooting performance, making 7 of her 11 field goal attempts and converting 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Allison McMorrow also had a solid game, contributing 7 points and 2 rebounds. On the other side, Marinique Reddin stood out for Anna Maria, recording a team-high 21 points. She made 8 of her 13 field goal attempts and was a key offensive presence for her team.

WPI's victory was built on their strong shooting performance, as they shot 38.3% from the field, compared to Anna Maria's 29.2%. Additionally, WPI capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 57.1% of their attempts, while Anna Maria struggled, shooting at just 50%.
