Women's Basketball Sneaks Past Cadets 58-57

PAXTON, MA - In an intense matchup on December 9, 2023, the Anna Maria basketball team narrowly defeated Norwich with a final score of 58-57. The back-and-forth game showcased strong performances from both teams, with Anna Maria emerging as the eventual victors by just one point. Despite a valiant effort by Norwich, their record now stands at 4-5, while Anna Maria improves to 5-5.

With a strong start, Norwich took an early lead with a score of 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. Erika Thomas of Norwich displayed solid shooting, going 1-2 from beyond the arc. Silas Bernier scored six points for Norwich, taking advantage of free throw opportunities.

The second quarter saw Anna Maria narrow the gap, outscoring Norwich 13-10. Arianna Saladini led the AMCATS in the second quarter with 5 points shooting fifty percent outside the arc while also going 2-3 inside the paint. 

Norwich regrouped in the third quarter, scoring 21 points compared to Anna Maria's 11. Kiley O'Brien of Norwich shone with an impressive 7-12 from the field, contributing to her team's lead. Norwich's defense limited Anna Maria's offense, resulting in a significant swing in momentum.

The final quarter was fiercely competitive, with both teams fighting to secure the victory. Anna Maria made a comeback, outscoring Norwich 20-11 in the quarter. Arianna Saladini brought the AMCATS to victory scoring the game winning three pointer. Marinique Reddin emerged as a key player for Anna Maria, leading her team with 20 points. Despite Norwich's best efforts, they fell just short of victory.

  • Marinique Reddin posted back to back double double performances for the AMCATS.
  • Arianna Saladini went 2-4 outside the arc. One of which secured the win for the AMCATS.
  • All but one AMCAT had points in the matchup against the cadets.
