Lasers Too Far Out Of Reach For Men's Basketball
NEWTON, MA. – On Saturday, January 20th the Anna Maria College men's basketball team traveled to Newton, MA to take on the Lasell University Lasers for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 78-71.
The Lasers jumped early in the first half taking the lead over the AMCATS. Keeping their distance for the entirety of the first half, the Lasers came out with the 48-50 lead over the AMCATS. Lasell led the field goal column with a 58% success rate compared to the AMCATS 50%. Jopaul McKrieth led the AMCATS with ten points in the first half going 5-6 in field goal territory.
The AMCATS stepped things up in the second half as they took control of the game, outscoring the Lasers 36-30. Unfortunately for the AMCATS it wouldn't be enough for a comeback as the Lasers still led by seven points at the end of regulation. Gabe Armstead led the charge for the AMCATS in the second half putting up 12 points while shooting 8 for 10 on the free throw line.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Jopaul Mckrieth and Gabe Armstead posted 17 points a piece in the matchup.
- Mckrieth currently sits at the top of the AMCATS leaderboard with 246 points so far this season.
- Armstead now needs just 92 points to reach his 1,000th career point.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, January 24th where they will host the Dean College Bulldogs for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening tip off is set for 5:00pm.
