Drosidis Becomes All-Time Hits Leader In Sweep Over Bulldogs

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Saturday, March 30th the Anna Maria College baseball team hosted the Dean College Bulldogs for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS swept the day winning game one 13-3 and game two 19-14.

Move over Jeff Scafidi ('12) there is a new hit king at Anna Maria College. Graduate Captain Kosta Drosidis passed Scafidi with his 235th career hit in the bottom of the 4th inning of game 1, a solo bomb to left field, of course he breaks the record with a big fly. For Drosidis and the Cats, this was just the start to his big day.

Game 1: The Amcats started early scoring 8 times in the bottom of the 1st inning. Graduate Captain Jarrod Marifiote started the scoring with a 2 run single to center, and would come all the way around to score after the ball hopped over the center fielders head and rolled to the wall. Sophomore Brady Alyward would then connect on his first career Homerun, a 2-run shot over the bullpen in left. Freshman Andrew Denison showed off his speed once again with a 2-strike, 2-run triple down the right field line to extend the lead to 7-0 and the cats had batted around. Jay Barber would finish the scoring in the first with an RBI groundout. Matt Bueka would single home Drosidis in the 2nd inning to push the Anna Maria lead to 9-0. The Bulldogs would score twice before Drosidis stepped to the plate in the 4th inning to claim his throne as the All Time Hits leader. Senior Captain Tommy Sasso delivered an RBI double in the home half of the 5th playing Denison and giving the Cats an 11-2 lead. A Dean solo shot in the 6th would be the last run they would get as Marifiote delivered a 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th to end game 1 early, a 13-3 run rule victory for the Cats.

Junior Captain Michael Shorey got the ball for the Amcats and ended up going the distance scattering 6 hits and 3 earned runs to go along with 5 punchies in his 7 innings of work.

Game 2: The 30 minutes in between games was not enough time to cool down this Anna Maria offense on a sunny day in Nortboro. This time, it was Dean who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. The amcats would answer immidiately with 9 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Jay Barber got them started with a 2-run double down the left field line to tie us up 2-2. Tommy Sasso then scored Denison on a single through the left side. Kosta Drosidis continued his big day with a 2-Run double to left field. Marifiote would reach on an error allowing Drosidis to score before Jeremy Rosenberg delivered the big blow, a 3-run tank to right center, capping off the Cats 9 run rally. The Bulldogs answered with 2 in the 3rd, so the Amcats responded right away with 4 of their own. A Barber RBI Double, a Drosidis RBI Single, and a Marifiote 2-Run Double.  Dean would score twice in the 5th before Brady Alyward played Drosidis and Marifiote with a 2-Run Single in the bottom half. The Amcats lead would stretch the that magic number of 10 in the bottom of the 6th after a Marifiote RBI Single and Brady Alyward reaching on an error. The Amcats were unable to maintain the 1 run lead though as Dean would score 7 times over the next 2 innings to cut the lead to 17-14 heading to the bottom of the 8th. Drosidis then capped off his incredible day with an absolute moon shot to left field, his 2nd of the day. Brady Alyward finished his big day with an RBI double to cap to amcats scoring at 19. Freshman Owen Sullivan would shut the door in the 9th for the second consecutive day striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Sophomore Connor Francesconi picked up the win throwing 3 innings of relief, scattering 4 hits and 2 runs over 3 innings of work.
