Baseball Surges Past Brandywine 12-1 For First Win Of The Season

AUBURNDALE, FL - On Tuesday, March 5th the Anna Maria College baseball team took on the Penn State Brandywine Lions for a double header at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, FL. The AMCATS won game one 12-1. Due to inclement weather, Game two of the double header was cancelled after three innings of play.

The game opened up with a tone setting run with Matt Beuka making his way home off an RBI single from David Doherty in the top of the first inning. Unfortunately the Lions would tie the game up in the bottom of the first off a wild pitch making it a 1-1 game. The AMCATS would go on to score three runs in the second inning. The first run came off a single from Beuka who sent Brady Aylward in for the AMCATS second run of the day. The next two runs came from a double out to left field made by Doherty to send home Beuka and Andrew Denison. The AMCATS would close out the second with a lead of 4-1 over the Lions.

The AMCATS saw just one run in the third inning as a Double for Brady Aylward help Jeremy Rosenberg make his way back to the dugout to increase the AMCATS lead to 5-1. Two more runs would be scored in the fourth inning with Josh Batchelder singling in Beuka while also putting Doherty on to second base. Jarrod Marifiote would hit a sacrifice fly to help Doherty make his way home for the AMCATS eighth run of the night. The next AMCATS run would come in the fifth inning after Jeremy Rosenberg bombed one over the fence for his first home run of the season making it an 8-1 game.

Four more runs would be scored in the sixth inning starting with Jarrod Marifiote hitting another SAC fly to send Beuka in for the AMCATS ninth run of the night. Rosenberg would later explode for a three run homer to jump the AMCATS lead up to 12-1. The AMCATS would hold things down in the final inning to secure the victory over the Lions.
