Baseball Surges Past Brandeis 11-4

WALTHAM, MA - On Sunday, March 17th the Anna Maria College baseball team traveled to Waltham, MA to take on the Brandeis University Judges for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 11-4.

The Judges were the first on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. Trailing by one, the AMCATS finally answered back in the fifth inning after Kosta Drosidis singled up the middle sending Dominic Brown and Brady Aylward home making it a 2-1 game. The Cats didn't finish there as Jarrod Marifiote singled up the middle right after, to help Jarryn Barber cross home, increasing the AMCATS lead to 3-1. Unable to answer in the bottom of the fifth, the Judges wouldn't find their next run until the sixth inning, cutting the AMCATS lead down to one run.

The AMCATS would explode for six runs in the eighth inning starting with a pair of runs scored off an error allowing Andrew Denison and Dominic Brown to make it home. The next run scored by the AMCATS came off a wild pitch allowing Jarryn Barber to score the AMCATS sixth run of the day. Jarrod Marifiote would start the next AMCAT scoring play with a single up the middle allowing David Doherty to score. John Guardascione closed out the eighth inning for the AMCATS with a double to center field allowing Drosidis and Marifiote to score. The AMCATS led 9-2 going into the bottom of the eighth. The Judges would manage two more runs cutting the AMCATS lead down to just five runs as the game entered the ninth inning.

A groundout play from David Doherty in the ninth inning sent home Dominic Brown for the AMCATS tenth run of the day. A single from Drosidis would be the AMCATS final scoring play of the day as Andrew Denison made his way home to close the game out with a score of 11-4 in favor of the AMCATS.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Owen Sullivan secured his first career NCAA win pitching six innings throwing six strikeouts.
  • Brady Aylward went 2 for 3 in the batters box for the AMCATS.
  • Kosta Drosidis led the AMCATS with 3 RBIs against the judges.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20th where they will host the Vermont State Castleton Spartans for a non-conference matchup. Opening pitch is set for 3:30pm at NEBC in Northborough, MA.
