Baseball Cant Hold On Against Falcons

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Tuesday, March 26th the Anna Maria College Baseball team hosted the Fitchburg State University Falcons for a non-conference matchup. the AMCATS lost the game 9-6.

Fitchburg state started early as they scored 5 times before the 6th inning and kept the Amcats offense at bay a majority of the game. Anna Maria would strike back for a single run in the bottom of the 6th as Matt Beuka played Jay Barber with an RBI single to center to cut the lead to 5-1. This would set up an explosive 7th inning, as Fitchburg scored 3 times to extend the lead to 8-1, before the Amcats bats shot to life with a 5 spot in the bottom half, suddenly we have a ballgame!

Blake Fuller got things started with a pinch hit HBP to get the lead off man on. Jeremy Rosenberg was the next pinch hitter who was also struck with a pitch. Anna Maria would go on to score 5 times all with 2 outs behind a David Doherty RBI Single, a 2-run single from Matt Bueka and and RBI Single from Freshman John Guardascione. With the lead at 8-6 and the bases loaded, Brady Alyward lifted a fly ball that died right at the warning track in left field to end the threat. Fitchburg would score an insurance run in the 8th inning and close out the game 9-6. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Kosta Drosidis went 3 for 5 putting himself just 4 hits shy of the Anna Maria all time record.
  • Matt Beuka went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, March 29th where they will head to West Hartford, CT to take on the University of Saint Joseph's (CT) Blue Jays for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening pitch is set for 12:00pm.
