Baseball Fights For Split Against Lasers

LYNN, MA - On Saturday, April 13th the Anna Maria College Baseball team traveled to Lynn, MA to take on the Lasell University Lasers for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. the AMCATS lost game one 17-0 and won game two 5-3 in extra innings.

Game 1: Lasell started early and would be relentless for all 7 innings defeating the Amcats 17-0 in game 1 of a double header at Frasier Field in lynn on Saturday. They scored 5 in the first and would go on to score in every inning except the 2nd. They jumped on starter Nick Choate and didn't let their foot off the gas pedal the entire game. Offensively, Anna Maria only mustered up 1 hit, a double from Kosta Drosidis in the 4th inning. Sean Christiansen threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Amcats.

Game 2: With their backs against the wall, and their season hanging in the balance, it was a pair of freshman on the mound, and some veterans at the plate who wouldn't let the Amcats die and clawed back for a huge game 2 come from behind victory 5-3. Freshman Owen Sullivan got the ball in game 2 and gave them everything he had for 6 innings, scattering 6 hits, 3 runs and striking out 6. Lasell took an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning before the Amcats responded with 1 in the 4th on an Andrew Denison RBI Walk. Captain Tommy Sasso kept this game close when he laid out for a ball in the right center gap in the 5th inning to keep the score at 2-1, full extension top 10 play like you see on Sportscenter, heroic stuff. Lasell would extend their lead to 3-1 in the 6th before the Amcats would claw their way back. In the top of the 7th, Graduate Captains Jarrod Marifiote and Kosta Drosidis woukd hit back to back doubles to cut the lead to 3-2. Anna Maria would be down to their final 2 outs in the 9th when Andrew Denison hit a single and stole second base. Sasso then comes up big time with an RBI single up the middle to tie this one up at 3. The score would remain tied until the top of the 12th. Marifiote would lead things off with a double to left center before a Drosidis single moved him up to 3rd base. The Amcats would load the bases with 2 outs setting the stage for another hero, Freshman Jay Barber, who hits a 2 Run double to right center to give the Amcats their first and only lead of the day. Conor Francesconi threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Freshman Tyler Godin entered the game in the 8th inning with 1 out. He would go on to throw the final 4.2 innings without allowing a hit, and striking out 6 to pick up the victory. The pitching staff was absolutely nails when they had to be, and they gave the offense a shot to win the game.
