Baseball Drops Two To Wildcats

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Monday, April 8th the Anna Maria College baseball team hosted the Johnson and Wales University Wildacts for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS lost both games 13-3 and 17-4.

Game1: After a scoreless first inning, it was JWU who got on the board first with 2 runs in the 2nd, and 2 runs in the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead. Anna Maria would answer in the 4th when Jarrod Marifiote would single and come around to score on an RBI Double from Jeremy Rosenberg. In the 5th inning, Tommy Sasso would hit an RBI Double off the wall in right scoring David Doherty and cutting the lead to 4-2. That is all the offense Anna Maria would muster up until a Sasso solo shot in the bottom of the 7th cut the lead to 13-3 as JWU had rattled off 9 straight runs.

Game 2: JWU picked up where they left off as a 2-run shot in the top of the 1st out then up 2-0. Tommy Sasso then lead off the bottom half and answered with his 2nd homer of the day, a solo shot to left center cutting the deficit in half. JWU would score 9 unanswered from the 2nd to the 4th inning, pushing the lead to 11-1 before Sasso stayed red hot with his 3rd homerun of the day, a 3-run shot to left making this one 11-4. Jwu scored 6 more times in the 5th and 6th to put a bow on their offensive explosion for the day, winning game 2 17-4.
