Field Hockey Downed By Overtime Goal

PAXTON, MA — On Wednesday, September 20th the Anna Maria College field hockey team hosted the Fitchburg State University Falcons for a non-conference matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 2-1 in overtime.

After two scoreless quarters the Falcons were the first on the board with a quick goal just nine minutes into the third quarter. The AMCATS would be held scoreless for the remainder of the quarter, going into the final fifteen minutes of play trailing behind the Falcons 1-0. After a number of scoring chances from the Falcons to start the fourth quarter the AMCATS managed to tie the game up with just under five minutes left to play after Carly Drew buried a penalty shot goal. The AMCATS would end up taking Fitchburg to overtime but would end up losing the game just two minutes into the extra time after the Falcons scored their second goal of the day.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

-Carly Dedrick stopped 6 out of 7 shots faced including a penalty shot early in the fourth quarter to give the AMCATS a fighting chance.

-Carly Drew scored her first goal of the season.

UP NEXT

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, September 23rd where they will head out to Franklin, MA to take on the Dean College Bulldogs. Game starts at 12:00pm.
