Garcia Leads Field Hockey Past Raiders

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College field hockey team welcomed Rivier University on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.

SENIOR DAY:

Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized their graduating senior class as part of senior day. Daryana DeCastro (Blackstone, MA), Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA), Marina Stoycheva (Rocklin, CA), Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA), and Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members, and fans for their time with the field hockey program. Although their time with the program may be ending, they will forever be a part of the AMCAT family.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The victory marked the AMCATS second three-game winning streak, a feat they also accomplished during the 2019 season. It was also the AMCATS' sixth win in eight games.
  • Following a scoreless first half, the Raiders got on the scoreboard 49 seconds into the third quarter, before graduate student forward Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) evened the game a minute later when she scored off a pass from junior midfielder Eden Forget (Worcester, MA).
  • The Raiders retook the lead with 2:25 left in the third quarter on a Chloe Sicard goal.
  • Forget gave evened the game a second time for the AMCATS with just over 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Senior midfielder Meghan Sonia was credited with the assist on Forget's third goal of the season.
  • With 3:35 left in regulation, Garcia gave the AMCATS their first lead of the evening by putting home her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Freshman midfielder Madison-Marie Romano earned the helper on the goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey recorded seven saves on nine shots. The win improved her season record to 6-8.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to meet another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent, the Elms College Blazers, at Timothy J. Leary Field. The teams will take the pitch for a noon start.
