Field Hockey Win in Shootout with Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT: The Anna Maria College field hockey team took on the University of St. Joseph's (CT) at the USJ Athletic Complex in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup. Two over time periods were not enough for the AMCATS and Blue Jays to decide a winner. With the score tied at two after regulation and again after both extra frames, the AMCATS would finally get the win when Carly Drew pushed her shot by Wendy Bowen for a 4-3 edge in the 6th frame of the shootout.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Sophomore midfielder Lexis Medina (Enfield, CT) started the scoring for the AMCATS with just under four minutes elapsed, scoring on a pass from senior midfielder Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA). The goal was the first of her collegiate career for Medina while the assist was the first of the year for Sonia.
• Sonia was again involved in the scoring when she was able to even the game for the AMCATS with just over five and a half minutes left in regulation. Drew (Rochester, MA) and Ashley Garcia (Cornwall, NY) were credited with the assists. The goal was the first of the year for Sonia and was the ninth of her career.  
• The Blue Jays goals were scored by McKenna Gibson (34:14 unassisted) and Maya Tomko (50:18 assisted by Mackenzie Dinger).

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be in action again on Friday when they will welcome a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent, the Dean College Bulldogs to Caparso Field. The teams will take the field for a 6 PM start.
