Field Hockey Gets Delayed Satisfaction Against Pride

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College field hockey team took on Regis College on Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In a game that was delayed a day due to a lack of officials, the AMCATS earned a 2-1 victory in a defensive struggle primarily played in the neutral zone. Statistically, it was a very even game as both teams had seven shots and five saves on the evening.
  • Sophomore midfielder Lexis Medina (Enfield, CT) scored her second goal of the season to give the AMCATS 1-0 lead with 5:43 remaining in the second quarter. Graduate forward Ashley Garcia was credited with her second assist of the year.
  • The fourth quarter was the most exciting quarter in today's game. The Pride evened the game at a goal apiece with 8:41 left in regulation when Ava Costello scored unassisted.
  • The AMCATS didn't take long to respond with another goal of their own as the clock ticked under five minutes remaining. Off of a short corner, the AMCATS set up a play as senior midfielder Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) sent the ball to freshman midfielder Madison-Marie Romano (Lebanon, ME) who settled the ball down and fired off a shot as Sonia moved to the front of the net and redirected Romano's rocket to the narrow gap between the keeper and the near post. The goal was Sonia's second of the year and the assist was Romano's second as well.
  • Senior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey recorded five saves on six shots on goal.

Anna Maria will be in action again on Friday when they travel to New Haven, CT to face another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent, the Albertus Magnus College Falcons, at Celentano Field. The teams will take the pitch for a 6:30 PM start.
