STANDISH, ME. – On Tuesday, September 26th the Anna Maria College field hockey team traveled to Standish, ME for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Monks of St. Jospeh's College. The AMCATS lost the game 5-1.
Scoreless throughout the first fifteen minutes, the Monks kicked off the second quarter with a goal just 1:15 into the frame when Kienna Haley converted a penalty stroke for her second tally of the season. Maya Waryas added to the monks lead on a fast break at the 20:52 mark to make it a 2-0 game and the hosts doubled their cushion with goals from Abbie Jacques and Waryas in the 32nd and 38th minutes, respectively.
The AMCATS found the board at the 40:56 mark when Meghan Sonia clanged a shot off the post and the rebound fell to freshman Morgan Beane who slammed home her first collegiate goal to cut the SJC lead to 4-1.
Applying most of the offensive pressure, Saint Joseph's struck again for the game's final goal at the 47:41 mark when Richelle Girard buried her first career tally off a Jacques penalty corner insert play.
