Men's Hockey Blanks Pilgrims 4-0 To Close Out First Semester Play

AUBURN, MA. – On Wednesday, December 13th the Anna Maria College Men's Ice Hockey team hosted the Pilgrims of New England College at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. The AMCATS won the game 4-0.

After a slow start to the game the AMCATS were the first on the board with a goal from Guillaume Coulombe off the pass from Cam Tobey and Brandon Della Paolera. The goal came with just under three minutes left to play in the first period.

The AMCATS would strike again early in the second period after Matthew Gilbert and Justin Taylor set up Spencer Carpenter for his first career NCAA goal. Just a minute and ten second into the second period the AMCATS led 2-0 over the Pilgrims. Despite the early goal from the AMCATS, the Pilgrims still managed to generate lots off offense throughout the second period getting 18 shots off. AMCATS goaltender Matthew Hennessey stopped everything that came his way allowing the AMCATS to maintain their 2-0 lead as the second period came to a close.

With just twenty minutes left to play, the AMCATS would start the period with a five minute penalty giving the Pilgrims an opportunity to make a comeback. Despite having a five minute power play, the Pilgrims ended up taking a two minute elbowing penalty to make it four on four hockey. With both teams coming out unscathed, the AMCATS managed to score their third goal of the game after Hennessey sent a puck down ice right on the stick of Braeden Mckinnon for a breakaway goal with just six minutes left on the clock. Max Wennerberg would tuck away an insurance goal for the AMCATS just four minutes later making it a 4-0 game with two minutes left to play in the third period. Unable to get anything past Hennessey, the Pilgrims would end up scoreless as the game closed out with a final score of 4-0.
