Men’s Ice Hockey Alum Brody McDougal Named Cage Titans MMA Fighter of the Year

SOMERSWORTH, NH - After a two year stint at Anna Maria, former men's ice hockey player Brody McDougal is making a name for himself in the Amateur Mixed Martial Arts world. On Wednesday, January 3rd, McDougal was named the Cage Titans Amateur Fighter of the Year while also taking home the shared award of Amateur Fight of the Year. During Brody's time at Anna Maria he competed in 30 games for the ice hockey team over the span of two seasons.

Following his graduation from AMC in 2021, McDougal began competing in MMA primarily under the Cage Titans league based out of Massachusetts. Brody started his training at the Nostos MMA gym in Somersworth, NH under the coaching of former UFC fighter Devin Powell. McDougal competed in his first fight on June 5th, 2021, winning in the second round. His second fight would be just over a year later where he competed on July 2nd, 2022, earning himself yet another second round victory.

Shortly thereafter, McDougal competed for the Welterweight Championship in the Reality Fighting league on January 7th, 2023 where he fought at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Just two minutes into the first round, McDougal took home his third career win while also taking the Reality Fighting League welterweight title. Just six months later, McDougal competed for yet another welterweight championship only this time fighting in the Cage Titans league. After four grueling rounds, Brody came out on top after a doctor deemed his opponent unable to continue. The fight would rack up over a million views later earning him and his opponent the Cage Titans Fight of the Year award.

Just two years into his amateur fighting career, McDougal has won four consecutive fights while also holding the welterweight titles in two separate fighting leagues. Currently Brody is ranked #2 out of 54 welterweight fighters in New England while also holding a ranking of 11 out of 337 in all of the Northeast. "It feels like i'm truly living when im competing. Training and fighting gives me a break from my regular day to day and i'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to compete on the stage that I've been given" said McDougal. "Ideally i'd like to go 4-0 in pro fights by the end of 2024 with a chance to reach the UFC by 2026." Brody hopes to fight again in February where he will compete in his professional debut.

Anna Maria College Athletics would like to congratulate Brody on winning the Cage Titans Fighter of the Year and Fight of the Year awards. We look forward to seeing Brody compete at the next level and continue to grow within the world of Mixed Martial Arts!
