Hennessey Stops 51 in 4-1 Win Over #5 Panthers

PAXTON, MA. – On Tuesday, November 7th the Anna Maria men's hockey team hosted the Plymouth State University Panthers at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. The AMCATS won the game 4-1.

Plymouth State was the first on the board with a goal just nine minutes into the first period. Battling hard on a 5 on 3 the AMCATS held off the Panthers  until they got their fourth man back but Anton Jellvik would capitalize while the AMCATS were still on the penalty kill. The first period would come to a close with the Panthers outshooting the AMCATS 23-10. Freshman goaltender Matthew Hennessey held the Panthers at bay stopping 22 of the 23 shots in the first.

The AMCATS came out flying in the second period putting pressure on the Panthers defense. The AMCATS "Sweden Line" tied things up when Max Wennerberg buried the AMCATS first goal of the night off the assists from Christopher Friberg and August Bouveng just over halfway through the second. The AMCATS took the lead with under a minute left to go in the period when Matthew Gilbert scored his fourth goal in four games so far this season. The goal came off the pass from Bryden Sinclair. The AMCATS closed out the second period with the 2-1 lead over the Panthers.

Fighting to tie things up, the Panthers came out strong in the third period but the AMCATS matched their speed. Just over eight minutes into the third period Matthew Byrne would turn on the jets to beat the Panthers defense in a foot race leading to the AMCATS third goal of the evening. With the AMCATS leading by two, the Panthers were forced to pull their goaltender in an effort to try and make a come back, however Byrne would tuck away his second goal of the night on the empty net with a minute and a half left on the clock. Hennessey held on to the AMCATS lead as the clock wound down for a 4-1 AMCATS win over the #5 ranked Plymouth State Panthers.
