Men's Hockey Tames Mustangs 3-1

MORRISVILLE, NY. – On Saturday, December 2nd the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to Morrisville, NY to take on the Morrisville State University Mustangs. The AMCATS won the game 3-1.

The AMCATS were the first on the board with a goal off the stick of Derek Raposo fourteen minutes into the first period. He was assisted by Guillaume Coulombe and Christopher Friberg. The period would come to a close with the AMCATS outshooting the Mustangs 14-7.

Caleb Cathcart started the second period out with a goal for the AMCATS making it a 2-0 game just six minutes into the period. Cam Tobey and Giovanni Perillo earned the assists on the goal. The Mustangs outshot the AMCATS in the second period 12-11. Matthew Hennessey kept the lead for the AMCATS stopping all 19 shots faced throughout the first two periods of play.

Leading 2-0 over the Mustangs, the AMCATS tacked on an insurance goal just two minutes into the third period off the stick of Braeden McKinnon. The Mustangs wouldn't get their first goal until ten minutes later when Cameron Clark broke their silence while playing short handed. The Mustangs goal wouldn't be enough to build any momentum as Hennessey kept the game at 3-1 stopping the remaining shots faced throughout the rest of the period.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Caleb Cathcart scored his first goal of his NCAA career against the Mustangs.
  • Matthew Hennessey stopped 33 out of 34 shots in the win.
  • Braeden McKinnon leads the AMCATS in goals with five so far this season.
  • The AMCATS are 5-1 in Division 3 play so far this season.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday, December 5th where they will travel to Bedford, MA to take on the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs. Opening face-off is set for 7:30pm.
