Men's Hockey Sinks Corsairs 4-1 On The Road

NEW BEDFORD, MA. – On Tuesday, December 5th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to New Bedford, MA to face off against the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs. The AMCATS won the game 4-1.

After an intense meeting back in October during exhibition play, the AMCATS expected a physical game from the Corsairs. It wasn't long before the AMCATS found themselves up on the board with a goal from freshman Max Wennerberg, just nine minutes into the first period. The goal was assisted by Christopher Friberg and Pearce Baker. Wennerberg would find twine yet again just 9 minutes later for the AMCATS second goal of the evening. This time with assists coming from Baker and Braden Sinclair.

Leading 2-0 at the start of the second period, the game began to shift to more physical play. The Corsairs responded to the AMCATS lead with five penalties throughout the second period. One of which resulted in a power play goal for the AMCATS as Friberg and Derek Raposo set up Cam Tobey for Anna Marias third goal of the night. Despite increasing their lead, the Corsairs continued to respond with penalties. Despite the power play opportunities for the AMCATS, UMass-Dartmouth out shot the AMCATS 10-7 in the second period. Matthew Hennessey stopped all ten shots in an effort to keep the Corsairs out of the game. As the second period came to a close, the AMCATS still held a 3-0 lead over the Corsairs.

Desperate to claw back into the game, the Corsairs decided to stay out of the box and get as many pucks on net as they could. Outshooting the AMCATS 12-9 in the third period, the Corsairs finally found the back of the net during a 6 on 4 with just over three minutes left to play. The goal came from Jake Maynard who was assisted by Michael Mania and Michael Perrone. With the goalie still pulled, the Corsairs continued to try and fight their way back into the game however it would be too little too late as Samson Mouland managed to sneak in an empty net goal with a little over a minute left to play. The goal would bring the game to 4-1 in favor of the AMCATS, putting a comeback out of reach for the Corsairs.
