Men's Ice Hockey Topples Lancers In 5-3 Comeback Win

WORCESTER, MA. – On Friday, October 27th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team took on the Worcester State University Lancers for the Worcester Cup semi finals. The AMCATS won the game 5-3.

After a scoreless first period, the Lancers were the first on the board scoring just three minutes into the second period. The AMCATS would answer back just 8 minutes later when Braeden McKinnon set up Matthew Gilbert for the AMCATS first goal of the night. The Lancers would come back and take the lead three minutes later with a power play goal. It wouldn't be long before the Lancers tucked away their third goal of the evening just a minute later. Now leading 3-1 over the AMCATS, Worcester state would hold on to the lead as time ran out in the second period.

Trailing by two to start the third period the AMCATS start things off early with Brandon Della Paolera finding the back of the net off a pass from Matthew Byrne just four minutes into the period. Della Paolera would keep the momentum going scoring the game tying goal just three minutes later. The AMCATS would then take the lead forty seconds later after Pearce Baker sent one in over the goalies shoulder from the blue line. The AMCATS added some insurance to their lead with a goal from Nicholas Frederick with eight minutes left to play in the third period. The AMCATS would hold off the Lancers for the remainder of the third period giving them the 5-3 win over Worcester State to move on to the championship game on Sunday against the Assumption University Greyhounds.
