WOMEN’S LACROSSE DROPS HOME OPENER TO BEAVERS 14-12

PAXTON, MA. – The Anna Maria Women's lacrosse team (0-1) hosted the Maine of Farmington Beavers (1-0) for the first home game of the season. On Saturday, March 9 2024 at the Caparso Field in Paxton, MA. The AMCATS lost the game 14-12. 

Ivy Ballou was the first to strike for the AMCATS as she would take it to the net at 16:29 on the game clock in the first quarter of the game. It would not take long for the Beavers of Maine Farmington to strike back, Ruby McMinis would score off a feed from Ashlee Farrar to tie the game. It would then be Ruby McMinis again for the Beavers to take it to net on her own to put the Beavers ahead of the AMCATS 3 to 1 in the first quarter. The Beavers would keep the AMCATS off the board the rest of the quarter. The Beavers however would strike one last time before the end of the first quarter off a feed from Ruby McMinis to Abby Trefsger who would score for the Beavers. That would increase the Beavers lead 4 to 1 at the end of the first fifteen minutes of the game. 

The AMCATS would lead the second quarter off strong getting two quick goals. The AMCATS goal would come from Kyana Altif off a feed from Christine Ijawet. That would put the AMCATS only three goals behind the Beavers. It would then be Riley Michaud who would take the ball to net and score the AMCATS third goal. That would put the AMCATS only one goal behind the Beavers. It would not take long for the Beavers to strike back with an unassisted goal from Ashlee Farrar. The AMCATS would get one more goal before the second quarter would end from Kyana Altif off a feed from Riley Michaud. It would be less than a minute after the AMCATS would score that the Beavers would score again before heading into half time. The score would now be 5 to 4 Maine of Farmington Beavers over the AMCATS. 

The second quarter would be full of offense for both teams, the AMCATS would strike first with two goals the first coming from Raegan Hachey unassisted. The AMCATS second goal coming from Riley Michand her second goal of the game. The Beavers would score as Ruby McMinis would get her third goal of the game. Anna Maria would strike again off a feed from Riley Michaud to Kyana Altif who would get her third goal of the game. It would then be the Beavers to break up the AMCATs scoring as they would score off a feed from Lydia Eastman to Lauren Girouard who would score for the Beavers. Regan Hachey would then get two more goals for the AMCATS one off a free position shot and the other off a feed from Kyana Altif. The Beavers would end the third quarter with a goal from Ashlee Farrar. The Beavers would get three more goals in the third quarter, but the AMCATS would not let down and continue to push the offense scoring five goals in the third quarter taking their first lead of the game to head to the 

The fourth quarter would be full of offense and excitement for both teams. The AMCATS would increase their lead as Christine Ijawet would score for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would be met with a burst of offense and goals from the Beavers who would respond with six consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to take the lead from the AMCATS. The AMCATS would score two more goals before the fourth quarter would end one coming from Christine Ijawet off a feed from Sarah Gonzalez with twenty seconds left. The last goal before the fourth quarter ended would be with one second left from Sarah Burt off a feed from Riley Michaud, however it would not be enough to regain the lead and close out the game as the AMCATS would finish the game behind the Beavers 14 to 10. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • • Regan Hachey and Kyana Altif both had three goals against the Beavers in the home opener. 
  • Six different AMCATS found the back of the net in the season opener. 
  • The AMCATS are 1-1 against the Beavers in the last two seasons.

Anna Maria women's lacrosse is back in action on Tuesday, March 12th where they will host the Vermont State Lyndon at the Caparso Field in Paxton, MA. Opening draw is at 5:30PM.
