Men’s Soccer Drops Close One To Monks

PAXTON, MA. – On Friday, September 15th the Anna Maria College men's soccer team hosted the Monks of St. Josephs College for a Great Northeast  Athletic Conference Matchup. The AMCATS lost the game 1-0.

After a chippy start to the first half, both teams battled hard to get the first goal of the night. Despite a hard fought effort from the AMCATS to start the game, it would be the Monks who struck first with a late first half goal from Icaro Vieira who headed the ball up and over Valter Santiagos head. After breaking the ice, the Monks were relentless for the rest of the half. With seven scoring opportunities right up until the halftime buzzer, Santiago held the AMCATS in the game keeping the game at 1-0 going into the second half.

A tremendous second half effort from the AMCATS opened multiple scoring chances to tie the game up. A penalty kick opportunity for Hezekiah Adeyeye seemed to be just what the AMCATS needed to tie things up, however an impressive save from the Monks Goalkeeper Liam Foley kept the game at 1-0. The AMCATS would be unable to come back before the end of regulation resulting in a 1-0 loss to the Monks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • St. Joseph's (ME) is undefeated in conference play so far this season.
