Softball Splits With Alverno To Start Their Season

Naples, FL: On Friday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Softball team played their first two games in Naples, Florida for Spring Training the doubleheader would be against the Alverna Inferno at the North Pelleir Field Complex 

THE BASICS: 

Date: Friday, March 1, 2023 

Game 1: Alverno 4 Anna Maria 0 

Game 2: Anna Maria 5 Alverno 3 

Records: Alverno Inferno 2-4 | Anna Maria AMCATS 1-5 

GAME 1: The AMCATS offense started off the bat of Shay Shavoie with a single up the middle in the first inning, who then would steal second base to put the AMCATS in scoring position. The AMCATS unsuccessful to score Shay in to get the run. The Alverno team gets the first run of the game in the fourth inning off a triple from Samantha Vinita who would then score off a pass ball. The Alverno pitcher would keep the AMCATS off the board striking out 18 total batters in the game. Alverno would get three more runs in the sixth inning starting with Lexi Hess on first base for a walk, that would lead Lexi to steal second Giselle Moreno would hit a double scoring Lexi Hess for Alverno making it two runs for Alverno. It would be then off the bat of Samantha Vinti who would single and score Giselle making it three runs for Alverno. The walks would impact the AMCATS causing Alverno to score one more run totaling four runs for a final against the AMCATS. The AMCATS would be limited to just one more hit in the 6th inning to right field coming off the bat of Kiara Edmonds

GAME 2: The AMCATS bats get hot in the first inning two hits coming off the bats of Kiara Edmonds and Maddy Crossman, the AMCATS fall short though as they leave them on base. Alverno offense gets strong in the second inning starting from Lexi Hess who singles into center field and then steals second base. Andrea Ramirez for Alverno would then double to left field scoring Lexi Hess. Alverno would get the first run of the game, it would be then Michelle Hess who singles to center field advancing Andrea Ramirez to third. Samantha Vinti had a sacrifice fly to advance the runners and score Andrea Ramirez to get the Alverno Inferno to two runs in the second inning. The AMCATS would come up big in the 3rd inning scoring a run to cut the inferno lead to one run. Maddy Crossman would walk for the AMCATS, and it would be K. Hicks to single that would advance Crossman to third base. It would be than that Ella Moon would single to third base advancing all the runners and resulting in the AMCATS first run of the game. The fourth inning for the AMCATS would result in the go ahead run, as Eden Forget would get on first base off an error on the Inferno, and then it would be Shay Savoie would hit a rocket to center field resulting in a triple scoring Eden Forget to tie the game. The fifth inning would be exciting as there were many hits for both teams. The AMCATS would strike first scoring off an Ella Moon double that would score Gabriella Vasquez for the AMCATS with the go ahead run. It would not be long before the Inferno would swing their bats and strike back with the bases loaded and Dominique Tetrault would single to center resulting in a run for the Inferno by Giselle Moreno. That would tie the game. The AMCATS would pull away with the win in the sixth inning, as their bats would stay hot as Shay Savoie hits another rocket tripling to center field resulting in the go ahead run as Maddy L would score. It would then be Kiki Edmonds who would hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Shay Savoie off third base resulting in the AMCATS getting their fifth run of their game. That would secure the win for the AMCATS as they would keep the Inferno off the board winning the game 5 to 3. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Lauryn Meade pitched in her first NCAA game while also earning her first career win.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, March 2nd where they will take on the Bethany (WV) Bison and the Clark University Cougars. Game one is set to start at 9:00am with game two kicking off at 11:00am.
