Three AMCATS Earn Fall ECAC Honors

Paxton, Mass.—Throughout the fall season three AMCATS were granted weekly honors from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) of the field hockey team, freshman James Bowhile (Worcester, Mass.) of the men’s soccer team and Mike Sinto (Long Beach, N.Y.), a senior captain linebacker for the AMCATS were all recognized for their outstanding performances.

BREEN DIVISION III NEW ENGLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OCT. 4
Following victories in early October over Bridgewater State University and Lasell, senior golatender Mary Kate Breen was named the ECAC Division III New England region Defensive Player of the Week. Breen was a rock in net for the AMCATS that week, totaling 30 saves in a 2-0 week for the AMCATS. She posted a career-high 23 saves in the team’s 4-3 double overtime win against Bridgewater State before adding seven saves in a 3-2 win over Lasell. Breen posted a .857 save percentage and 2.50 goals-against average on the week.
 

Overall this season, Breen collected a season high 174 saves while allowing 45 goals for a save percentage of .795. She also held the top spot in the GNAC for total number of saves. Along with this honor, Breen was named the GNAC Goaltender of the Week three times, was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year, and was a GNAC All-Conference Fist Team selection. She has the second highest school record for career saves with 556 and holds the top spot for career wins with 52.

BOWHILE NAMED ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK : OCT. 11

Following two out of the AMCATS three wins on the season, freshman forward James Bowhile was named the Division III New England region Rookie of the Week by the ECAC. In the week ending October 11, the AMCATS took a 4-1 victory over Suffolk University before shutting out Becker, 6-0. Bowhile notched his first collegiate hat trick in an eight-point performance against Becker College on Tuesday. In addition to his three goals, he also dished out two assists to have a hand in five of Anna Maria’s six goals in the win.

Bowhile finished the season as the second highest point scorer for the AMCATS with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points on the season. His goal in a victory over Suffolk (10/3) was his loan game-winner of the season. Taking 46 shots this season with 22 of them on net, Bowhile posted a .478 shots on goal percentage. Along with this honor, he was once named the GNAC Rookie of the week in week six of the season.

MIKE SINTO, DIVISION III NORTH FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: NOV. 8

Following a 24-20 AMCAT victory over Gaullaudet, senior linebaker Mike Sinto was named the ECAC Division III North Defensive Player of The Week. Sinto recorded a game-high 15 tackles, 4.5 of which were for a loss, in the victory. He recorded two of his tackles on a crucial defensive stand for Anna Maria in which the team forced Gallaudet into a three-and-out on their final drive. Sinto led an AMCAT unit that held the Bison to just 124 yards of total offense.

In his final season with the AMCATS, captain Sinto played in all 10 games collecting 50 tackles and one sack. After the victory over the Bison, he was also named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Defensive player of the week.
