Men’s Hockey Topples Division 1 Stonehill 4-2 On the Road

BRIDGEWATER, MA. – On Saturday, November 18th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team traveled to Bridgewater, MA to take on the Division I Stonehill College Skyhawks. The AMCATS won the game 4-2.

In a historical matchup, the AMCATS were the first on the board after August Bouveng scored just under six minutes into the first period. Maintaining the 1-0 lead over the Skyhawks, Anna Maria net minder Cole Johnston stopped all 13 shots faced in the first period. 

The AMCATS continued fighting hard throughout the second period with Johnston holding down the fort before leaving the game just seven minutes into the second period. With freshman goaltender Connor Bradford between the pipes, the AMCATS didn't stop playing hard as Derek Raposo brought the teams lead to two with just under five minutes left to go in the second period. The Skyhawks would finally find the back of the net just minutes later after Conor Ronayne made it a 2-1 game.

Just eight minutes into the third period, the Skyhawks tied things up as Ronayne tucked his second goal of the evening. Tied at two a piece the AMCATS played unfazed as they continued to add pressure to the Stonehill defense. Anna Maria took back the lead with under three minutes to go in the third period after Derek Raposo scored his second goal of the night to make it a 3-2 game. Desperate to tie the game back up, the Skyhawks pulled their goalie however with four seconds left on the clock, Braeden McKinnon scored the AMCATS fourth goal of the night solidifying the victory over Division 1 Stonehill.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Cole Johnston stopped all 15 shots faced before leaving the game in the second period. 
  • Freshman Connor Bradford stepped into to his first NCAA game stopping 26 shots earning his first career win with the AMCATS.
  • Derek Raposo had two goals in the win.
  • This marks the first time in Anna Maria history that a team defeated a Division 1 opponent.
