Men’s Hockey Sweeps Dutchmen On The Road

HERSHEY, PA. – On Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th the Anna Maria College men's hockey team traveled to Hershey, PA to take on the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen at the historic Hershey Park Arena. The AMCATS won game one 5-2 and game two 2-1.

Game One: Scoreless after twenty minutes of play, the AMCATS outshot the Dutchmen 12-4 to start the weekend. Quick to start things up in the second period, the AMCATS found the back of the net for their first goal of the weekend as Bryden Sinclair tucked one off the assist from Braeden McKinnon just under five minutes into the period. It wouldn't be long before the AMCATS would find their second goal of the night off the stick of Derek Raposo as Guillaume Coulombe and Peace Baker aid with the assists on the goal. The AMCATS now led 2-0 over the dutchmen with more than half the second period still left to play. After a penalty from Matthew Gilbert just over eight minutes into the period, the Dutchmen were able to score their first goal of the night as Troy Andrews tucked the power play goal making it a 2-1 game with just over ten minutes left to go in the second period. The remainder of the period would go scoreless as the AMCATS carried their 2-1 lead over into the start of the third period. 

The AMCATS jumped first in the third period after Gilbert and Baker set up Coulombe for the AMCATS third goal of the evening with just under ten minutes left in regulation. Matthew Byrne would join in on the fun as he fired a puck right over the goalies shoulder giving the AMCATS a 4-1 lead with about eight minutes left to play. Undeterred the Dutchmen pushed hard to try and come pack outshooting the AMCATS 21-17 in the third period. Matthew Hennessey stopped all but one in the third period push from the Dutchmen as they managed to sneak one in with three minutes left to play, cutting the AMCATS lead in half. Despite the Dutchmen's efforts, the AMCATS were able to seal the deal with an empty net goal from Matthew Gilbert to close the game out at a score of 5-2.

Game Two: After a surge of goals in game one against the Dutchmen, game two would be a much tighter race. The AMCATS took the lead early in the first period as Braeden McKinnon buried the first goal of the night off the assistance of Nicholas Fredrick and Pearce Baker. Hennessey would stop all six shots faced to keep the score at 1-0 as the first period came to a close.

The Dutchmen were quick to tie things up in the second period after a penalty for the AMCATS set up a power play goal for Lebanon valley. The goal came from Cameron Croteau with just under five minutes played in the second period. Taking control in the second period, the AMCATS outshot the Dutchmen for the remainder of the period but were unable to break the tie as the time on the clock hit zero.

Twenty minutes left to play in the AMCATS weekend roadtrip to Hershey, PA, McKinnon would be the one to give the AMCATS the lead just under six minutes into the final period of play. Leading 2-1 the AMCATS continued the pressure in the third period outshooting the Dutchmen 14-7 in an effort to add some insurance to their lead. Dutchmen goaltender Chris Branch stopped the remainder of the AMCATS shots to give his team a fighting chance, however the Dutchmen would be unable to score on Hennessey in the last twenty minutes as the AMCATS secured the 2-1 win over the Dutchmen for a weekend sweep.
