Men's Hockey Can't Come Back In 4-3 Loss To Greyhounds

AUBURN, MA. – On Tuesday, November 21st the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey hosted the Assumption University Greyhounds at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. The AMCATS lost the game 4-3.

The Greyhounds were the first to strike scoring their first goal of the night just nine minutes into the first period. The goal came off the stick of Daniel Lemansky. Trailing 1-0, the AMCATS put some pressure on the Greyhounds defense however it wouldn't be enough. Struggling to find quality shots, the AMCATS finished the first period still trailing 1-0.

After a scoreless second period it was the Greyhounds who took control outshooting the AMCATS 17-10. AMCATS goaltender Connor Bradford stopped all 17 shots giving the AMCATS a chance at tying things up in the second period. In a light show of a third period, the Greyhounds kicked things off with a goal just six minutes into the period. Not long after, the Greyhounds would strike again as Nathan Palumbo snuck in a short handed goal to improve Assumptions lead to three. The Greyhounds didn't stop there however as they piled on a fourth goal just 4 minutes later off the blade of Kyle Lonigro making it a 4-0 game with just over three minutes left on the clock. With tensions running high the game became scrappy resulting in a string of penalties throughout the final minutes of the game. Two of these penalties fell in favor of the AMCATS who managed to score two power play goals. The first goal came with less than three minutes on the clock as Matthew Gilbert found Brandon Della Paolera on the doorstep to cut the Greyhounds lead back down to three. Just a minute later Pearce Baker and Della Paolera set up Braeden McKinnon for the AMCATS second goal within a minute of each other. Now trailing by just two, the AMCATS had just under a minute and a half to keep their momentum rolling. With the goalie pulled the AMCATS managed to score their third goal with 34 seconds left on the clock as Baker sets up Nicholas Fredrick making it a 4-3 game. After scoring three goals in almost three minutes, the AMCATS pushed for the game tying goal as the time on the clock ticked down however they wouldn't be able to get one in on time and the game would end 4-3 in favor of the Greyhounds.
