Mammoth Stomp On Men’s Hockey 6-2

AUBURN, MA. – On Saturday, January 20th the Anna Maria College men's hockey team hosted the Amherst College Mammoth at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA. The AMCATS lost the game 6-2.

The Mammoth were the first on the board with a goal off the stick of Quinton Fox just under seven minutes into the first period. The Mammoth outshot the AMCATS 16-8 with Matthew Hennessey stopping 15 shots to keep it a 1-0 game as the first period came to an end.

The second period of the game wouldn't see much action until just before the ten minute mark when Braeden McKinnon tucked in the game tying goal for the AMCATS. Unfortunately the Mammoth answered back just seven seconds later as Matt Vander Vort gave Amherst the 2-1 lead just halfway through the game. Almost two minutes later, the Mammoth tacked on their third goal of the game as Vincent Velocci scored off the assist from Ryan Tucker and Connor Guest. Just over a minute later, the AMCATS cut the Mammoth lead back down to one, with a goal from Max Wennerberg off a pass from Matthew Gilbert. Wennerbergs goal would be the last goal of the period as the Mammoths 3-2 lead carried over into the start of the third period.

A power play goal for the Mammoth's Zachary Murray made it a 4-2 game just under eight minutes into the third period. Amherst didn't let up as Ben Ritter found the back of the net with just ten minutes left to play in the third period improving the Mammoth lead to 5-2. Ritter tucked in his second goal of the night with less than five minutes to go adding an insurance goal making it a 6-2 game.
