Men’s Hockey Can’t Scratch Back Against Wildcats

ATTLEBORO, MA. – On Friday, January 5th the Anna Maria College men's hockey team traveled to Attleboro, MA to take on the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats at the New England Sports Village. The AMCATS lost the game 4-1.

Taking charge to start the game, the AMCATS out shot the Wildcats 14-8 throughout the first period however it would be Johnson and Wales who managed to score the first goal of the evening after Brendan Doyle found the back of the net on the power play. The goal came with the help of Brendan Shandley and Joe Freeman.

The game wouldn't see another goal until the third period where the Wildcats managed yet another power play goal, this time off the stick of Sam Band. Shortly after, the AMCATS finally brother their silence when Brandon Della Paolera set up Matthew Gilbert making it a 2-1 game with just over 12 minutes left in the third period. The AMCATS goal wouldn't be enough to build momentum as the Wildcats scratched right back with a goal from Brent Ricket. Unable to generate any scoring opportunities, the AMCATS fought hard to try and close the gap, however the Wildcats tacked on their fourth goal of the night with just six minutes left to play, seemingly putting an AMCATS comeback out of reach. The game would close out with the Wildcats leading over the AMCATS 4-1.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Matthew Gilbert scored his sixth goal of the season.
  • Matthew Hennessey stopped 26 out of 30 shots faced.
  • The Wildcats scored on three of their six power play opportunities.
