Men's Hockey Cant Hold On In 5-4 Loss To Greyhounds

WORCESTER, MA. – On Sunday, October 29th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team took on the Assumption University Greyhounds for the Worcester Cup championship. The AMCATS lost the game 5-4.

The AMCATS wasted no time getting started as Derek Raposo set up Guillaume Coulombe for the first goal of the game. The Greyhounds wouldn't stay silent for long however, scoring the tying goal just three minutes later making it a one to one game just under five minutes into play. Two minutes later Samson Mouland would find the twine for the AMCATS second goal of the game. Mkyllan Couture and Max Wennerberg would each get an assist on the goal. The AMCATS would hold onto their 2-1 lead for almost seven minutes when the Greyhounds tied things up again making it a 2-2 game with just over five minutes left in the first period. With the period seemingly coming to a close the Greyhounds made a final push with just twenty seconds left on the clock scoring their third goal of the period to take the 3-2 lead going into the intermission.

Trailing by one, the AMCATS managed to tie things back up relatively early in the second period after Brandon Della Paolera tucked away the AMCATS third goal off the assists of Guillaume Coulombe and Matt Byrne. Just six minutes after the AMCATS tied things up, the Greyhounds would regain the lead scoring their fourth goal of the game. Battling hard to tie the game up yet again, the AMCATS caught a break with just under a minute left to play in the second period as Matthew Gilbert took a low angle shot to bounce off the back of the Assumption goaltenders leg and into the goal for the game tying goal.

With both teams tied up at four a piece the AMCATS fought hard to take the lead in the final period. Halfway through the third period the Greyhounds would capitalize off an Anna Maria penalty scoring the game winning goal just seconds after the power play started. The AMCATS would keep fighting for yet another game tying goal however it wouldn't come and the game would close out with the Greyhounds winning the third annual Worcester Cup Championship.
