Bears Too Much For Softball

FT. MYERS, FL: On Saturday March 2nd, the Anna Maria College Softball played a pair of non-conference opponents at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the North Collier Sports Complex. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Date: Saturday, March 2, 2023 
  • Game 1: Potsdam 6, Anna Maria 2 
  • Records: Potsdam 0-1 | Anna Maria AMCATS 1-2 

HIGHLIGHTS: 

The Bears of Potsdam would get out to an early lead in the top of the second inning. The Bears would get a single by K. Bennett to third base, and Danielle Moscarello would reach on an error resulting in Kelsey Bennet to score. That would put the Bears up 1-0 in the top of the second inning. The Bears would leave two girls stranded on base, and the AMCATS would escape the inning with just giving up one run. It would not take the AMCATS long to rally back to tie the game. The AMCATS would get one runner on base Maddy Crossman, who would then advance to second on a grounded out and to third on a wild pitch. Paige Stewart would hit a single into center field to score Madisyn Crossman to tie the game against the Bears. The AMCATS defense could not hold the Bears offense for long as in the third and fourth inning the Bears offense would be strong. The Bears would capitalize on the AMCATS walks and errors in the third inning to break the tie and put them up 3 to 1. The Bears would get the bases loaded in the third, add a run off a ground out from Kelsey Bennett to score Anna Grottola. The Bears would earn their second run of the inning off a pass ball resulting in Kaylee LaForest to score. The Bears would continue to push the offense in the fourth inning resulting in Kiara Lovejoy to start off the inning reaching 1st base off an error, that would lead E. Beck to double to center field resulting in the Bears to score Kiara Love Joy adding to their leading now making it 4 to 1. Emily Beck would then advance to third on a wild pitch resulting in a Anna Grottola to grounded out to ss but still score Emily Beck to add to the Bears lead 5 to 1. The AMCATS would get the bats firing in the fourth inning resulting in a run to cut the Bears lead to 3 runs. Gabrielle Vasquez would get the bats started hitting a single to left field. Emma Jeffery would come in to run for Gabrielle Vasquez. The AMCATS would get the bases loaded coming off an error from the short stop to have Paige Stewart reach on base, and Shay Savoie would single to left field to load the bases for the AMCATS. Eden Forget would single to center field to advance all the runners and get Emma Jeffery to score for the AMCATS. The AMCATS rally fell short in the fourth inning as the AMCATS would leave the bases loaded resulting in only one run in the fourth inning. The AMCATS offense would remain off the board as the Bears would capitalize one more time in the seventh inning off the bat of Lexie Cottrill fly out that would score Kelsey Bennett for the Bears to increase their lead to 6 to 2. The AMCATS would fall short to the Bears losing 6 to 2. 

UP NEXT: 

Anna Maria will continue their spring break trip with two more games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, FL. The first pitch of the first game will be a rematch against the Bethany W.V at 9 AM. The second game will follow around 11 AM against the Clark University Cougars.
