Softball Drops Two To Monks

WORCESTER, MA - On Sunday, April 14th the Anna Maria College softball team hosted the Monks of St. Joseph's (ME) for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. the AMCATS lost both game 9-4 and 9-5.

Game 1: Anna Maria jumped out to an early lead in Game 1 in the top of the 1st when Captain Shae Savoie walked, stole second, and came around to score on an RBI groundout from Kiki Hicks. The Monks would answer with 5 runs between the 3rd and 5th inning to take the lead 5-1 headed into the bottom of the 5th. The Amcats answered with 3 of their own with Hicks, Sabrina Liston, and Gabbie Vasquez all coming through with RBI Singles. St Joes would tack on 4 in the 7th to give themselves a cushion before securing the victory 9-4.  

Game 2: This time it was the Monks who jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st. The Amcats would answer in the 3rd with a Kiki Hicks 2 run double, followed by a Gabbie Vasquez RBI double to take a 3-1 lead. The score would remain the same until St Joes pushed 1 across in the 6th to set up a 3-2 game heading to the 7th. The Monks would come through with a 2 out game tying double to send us to extras. In Extras it was all St Joes as they scored 6 times in the 8th inning to put this game away and sweep the doubleheader. Captain Sabrina Liston gave the Amcats a shot to win on the mound scattering 12 hits (5 in the 8th) and 7 earned runs over the 8 innings.  

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Monday, April 15th where they will host the Bay Path University Wildcats for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 3:00pm.
