Softball Splits With Hornets

PAXTON, MA - On Monday, April 1st the Anna Maria College softball team hosted the Vermont State Lyndon Hornets for a non-confernce doubleheader. the AMCATS split with the Hornets losing game one 5-4 and winning game two 3-2.

Game 1: Eden Forget would suffer her first loss of the season as the Amcats drop game 1 in 8 innings to the Hornets of Lyndon State. Vermont would score 1st on a homerun to stake themselves an early lead. Sabrina Liston then reached on an error in the home half of the inning, scoring Shae Savoie from 3rd. The game would feature no more runs until the 7th when Lyndon state extended its lead to 4-1. That's when the Cats comeback was on. Maddie Levesque got things going with a single followed by a Zoie Laine single. Savoie then drove a ball off the fence in center for an RBI Double. Kiki Hicks then followed that up with an RBI double of her own cutting the lead to 1. Aine Manning would pinch hit and tie the game on a fielders choice scoring Hicks. In Extras, the hornets would score 1 in the top half of the inning and the Amcats would leave 2nd and 3rd to end this one 5-4.  

Game 2: Sabrina Liston would pick up her 2nd straight win as the Amcats walk off Lyndon state in the 7th to salvage a split. Vermont would score 1st again in the top of the 1st to take an early lead. Maddie levesque would walk with the bases loaded to this one up in the bottom of the 2nd. Paige Stewart would then hit a sac fly to left to put the cats in front 2-1. An RBI single in the 5th for Lyndon state would tie the game at 2 and set the stage for Shae Savoie in the 7th. Maddie levesque would lead it off in the 7th reaching on an error. Kiara Edmunds would pinch run and advance to 3rd on a sac bunt by Paige Stewart. Savoie would then step up to the plate with 1 out and the go ahead run at 3rd. A fly ball to left was all this one took as Edmunds tagged up and beat the throw home, Amcats Win!  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Savoie finished the day 3 for 6 with 2 RBIs and 2 Doubles.
  • Kaitlyn Hicks went 2 for 6 with and RBI and a Double.
  • The AMCATS now sit at .500 earning them the programs best start to a season in years.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Thursday, April 4th where they will take on the MCLA Trailblazers for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 2:00pm.
