Bison Too Much For Softball

FT. MYERS, FL: On Saturday March 2nd, the Anna Maria College Softball played a pair of non-conference opponents at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the North Collier Sports Complex. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Date: Saturday, March 2, 2023 
  • Game 1: Bethany W.V 4, Anna Maria 3 
  • Records: Bethany W.V 0-0 | Anna Maria AMCATS 1-1 

HIGHLIGHTS 

  • GAME 1: In their first game of the day, the AMCATS would find themselves down to Bethany, but would fight their way back all game but their comeback would come up short against the Bisons of Bethany. 
  • It took only three batters for the Bison to get their first run on the board. Leadoff hitter D. Goodnight walked and would then steal second base to, advance on a ground out to third, and then eventually score on a fielder's choice off of Haley Eyler bat who grounded to shortstop, to earn the run for the Bison. 
  • The third inning would be tough for the AMCATS as the Bison would come back striking again as Angela Brandel singled to lead off the inning. Goodnight would single to advance Angela Brandel to third and then Katelyn Ziems singled to advance Angela Brandel to score and the bases would remain loaded for the Bison. The Bison would now take a two run lead on the AMCATS. Haley Eyler would reach on a fielders choice and the run would score as Goodnight would come in to score for the Bison. That would end the Bison streak in the third inning, increasing the Bison lead to 4 runs. The Amcats would get their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Shay Savoie would hit a single, and then steal second getting the AMCATS in scoring position. It would then be Shay Savoie again to steal third base, to give the AMCATS an opportunity to score a run. The AMCATS would capitalize on this and score Shay Savoie off a sacrifice fly to right field from Sabrina Liston. The AMCATS would now have their first run of the game on the board, still trailing to the Bison by three runs. The AMCATS in the bottom of the sixth would continue to fight, getting two runners on off of two singles. The AMCATS have one out with two people on and Sam Dahill would come to the plate to pinch hit, and she would hit a rocket over the center field head leading to a double, resulting in both the runners to score for the AMCATS. That would now leave the AMCATS trailing to the Bison by just one run. The AMCATS would continue to fight back but strand Sam Dahill on base in the sixth inning. The comeback for the AMCATS would fall short as the Bison would end up winning the game 4 to 3. 

UP NEXT: 

Anna Maria will continue their spring break trip with two more games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, FL. The first pitch of the first game will be a rematch against the Bethany W.V at 9 AM. The second game will follow around 11 AM against the Clark University Cougars.
