Baseball Can't Hold on Against Spartans

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Wednesday, March 20th the Anna Maria College baseball team hosted the Vermont State Castleton Spartans for a non-conference matchup at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, MA. The AMCATS lost the game 13-7.

The Amcats jumped out to an early lead thanks to a Brady Aylward RBI Single, and a Josh Batchelder RBI Walk in the first inning that scored David Doherty and Kosta Drosidis respectively. Anna Maria would leave the bases loaded and do no further damage. Freshman Tyler Godin got the start for the Amcats, he would cruise through the first 2 innings before running into trouble in the 3rd. Castelton would answer with 4 runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead and chase Godin from the game.

The Amcats would respond with 4 of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. Junior Dom Brown drove in Jarrod Marifiote with a single of his own. Andrew Denison then tied it up with an RBI single. Freshman Jay Barber would put the Cats ahead with a 2 run double down the left field line. Castelton would score 8 runs from the 4th to the 7th innings on the back of 3 home runs, to take a commanding 12-6 lead. Freshman Jon Guardascione would hit a pinch hit RBI single in the home half of the 8th to score the Amcats final run of the day.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, March 22nd where they will host the Colby Sawyer Chargers at the New England Baseball Complex for their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup of the season. Opening pitch is set for 3:30pm.
