Baseball Comes Up Short Against Mariners

NEW LONDON, CT - On Sunday, April 7th the Anna Maria College baseball team traveled to New London, CT to take on the Mitchell College Mariners for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. the AMCATS lost the game 8-5.

Mitchell struck first against Anna Maria Ace Nick Choate in the top of the 3rd inning on a sac Fly to take a 1-0 lead. Anna Maria would answer though with an RBI single from Andrew Denison in the 4th scoring Brady Alyward  and a Kosta Drosidis RBI single in the 5th to score Tommy Sasso and give the Cats a 2-1 lead. The Mariners would respond with 4 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to take the lead and extend it to 6-2. Matthew Bueka and Alyward would both hit RBI singles in the bottom half of the 7th to score Drosidis and Jarrod Marifiote respectively and cut the deficit to 6-4. A runnin the 8th and 9th from Mitchell put this one out of reach as the Amcats would get1 more Alyward Sac fly and ultimately fall 8-5. Choate scattered 8 hits over 7 innings of work to go along with 7 strikeouts in the loss.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Marifiote (3), Drosidis (2) and Beuka (2) all had multi-hit days for the AMCATS.
  • Brady Aylward had 2 RBIs for the AMCATS.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Monday, April 8th where they will host the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats for a Great northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 12:00pm at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, MA.
