Anna Maria Falls to Colby Sawyer in Conference opener

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - On Friday, March 22nd the Anna Maria College Baseball team hosted the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers for the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup of the season. The AMCATS lost the game 9-2.

Nick Choate got the ball for the Amcats and settled in nicely after allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in the 1st inning. Choate would strikeout 6 over 6 innings of work surrendering 6 hits, 5 runs (4 earned) and walking 3. Anna Maria would answer in the home half of the 3rd with their only 2 runs if the day coming on a Kosta Drosidis 2 run single. Freshmen Andrew Denison and Jay Barber would start the inning off with back to back singles, before being sacrificed over perfectly by David Doherty. Drosidis followed up with his 2 run single to left field cutting the Colby Sawyer lead to 3-2.  

The bats would go silent for both sides until the Chargers struck for 2 runs in each of the 6th, 7th and 8th innings to further their lead to 9-2. The Amcats had opportunities throughout the contest but bounced into 3 double plays on the day and left too many men on base. Colby Sawyer Starter Dylan Watson collected the win going 7 and 1/3 innings, surrendering 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He was also 2/5 at the plate.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Drosidis and Denison both went 2-4 in the contest. 
  • Jeremy Rosenberg collected his 100th career hit in the loss.  

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Sunday, March 24th where they will head to Chicopee, MA to take on the Elms College Blazers for their next Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening pitch is set for 1:00pm.
