Baseball Comes Back To Beat Wentworth 7-5

AUBURNDALE, FL - On Wednesday, March 6th the Anna Maria College baseball team took on the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, FL. The AMCATS won the game 7-5.

The AMCATS opened the game up with a sacrifice fly from Kosta Drosidis that sent Matt Beuka home for the first run of the game. The Leopards would answer back shortly thereafter with a single into right field that resulted in two runs to make it a 2-1 game going into the second inning.

The Leopards continued their momentum in the third inning scoring two runs off a single down the let field line to make it a 4-1 game. The AMCATS wouldn't get back on the board again until the fifth inning when Matt Beuka singled a ball into left field to help send Andrew Denison home. 

Kosta Drosidis would give the AMCATS some momentum in the sixth inning with a home run out to left center to cut the Leopards lead down to just one run. Unfortunately, the Leopards answered back with a double resulting in their fifth run of the night.

The AMCATS would surge in the seventh inning starting with a run from Brady Aylward off a passed ball to make it a 5-4 game. Doherty would help the AMCATS tie the game up after he singled to left center to help Denison score. Doherty would score next after a single from Josh Batchelder pushed the bases to help the AMCATS take a 6-5 lead. Jarrod Marifiote would triple to right center to send Batchelder home for the AMCATS seventh and final run of the night.

The game would close out with Misael Guzman entering the ninth inning on the mound for the AMCATS striking out one batter before the Leopards lined out to Drosidis at short stop to close the game out at 7-5 in favor of the AMCATS.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Alex Toomey started his first NCAA game on the mound for the AMCATS. 
  • Conor Francesconi posted 1 run and 3 strikeouts on 4 innings pitched.
  • Matt Beuka leads the AMCATS batting with a .571 batting average and a .714 on base percentage.
  • Kosta Drosidis scored his second home run of the season against the Leopards.
  • Jeremy Rosenberg sits three shy of his 100th career hit in three seasons with the AMCATS.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Friday, March 8th where they will take on the Penn State Abington Lions at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, FL. Opening pitch is set for 3:30pm.
