Terriers Too Much For Women's Lacrosse

WATERVILLE, ME. – On Wednesday, February 28th the Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team traveled to Waterville, MA to take on the Thomas College Terriers for their first game of the season. The AMCATS lost the game 15-8.

Ivy Ballou opened the scoring up for the AMCATS with a goal just under five minutes into the first quarter. Quick to answer the Terriers responded before Olivia Stump Capitalized on a man up opportunity to regain the lead for the AMCATS. Leading 2-1 the AMCATS were met with two quick goals from the Terriers to make it a 3-2 game. Riley Michaud would tie things up for the AMCATS with just under three minutes left to go in the first quarter. unfortunately the Terriers would manage another goal just thirty seconds later to end the quarter with a 4-3 lead over the Cats.

Michaud kicked things off in the second quarter, tying the game up at four goals a piece just under a minute into the quarter. The Terriers would go on to score five unanswered goals throughout the remainder of the quarter, giving them a 9-4 lead over the AMCATS going into halftime.

The Terriers didn't let up in the second half as they started the third quarter with a pair of goals. Michaud would end the AMCATS silence scoring just five seconds after the Terriers last goal. Makayla Gleba would be the next AMCAT on the board with a goal just four minutes later. Despite the momentum shift for the AMCATS, the Terriers would continue to pile on as they scored three more unanswered goals before Michaud ended the quarter with a goal to make it 14-7 as the third quarter came to an end.

The fourth quarter wouldn't see much action on either side as the AMCATS managed just one more goal at the start of the quarter after Olivia Stump scored off the assist from Kyana Altif. The Terries would later score one last goal to close the game out with a score of 15-8.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Kelsey Kowal got her first career start in net for the AMCATS stopping 11 of 25 shots.
  • Gabi Gibson relieved Kowal for her first game in net for the AMCATS stopping 2 of 3 shots in the fourth quarter.
  • Riley Michaud opened up the season with an explosive four goal game against the Terriers.
  • Olivia Stump scored twice for the AMCATS.

WHAT'S NEXT: 

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, March 9th where they will host the Beavers of Maine Farmington for a non-conference matchup at Caparso Field in Paxton, MA. Opening face-off is set for 2:00pm.
