Football Places Five on ECFC All-Conference Teams

Football Places Five on ECFC All-Conference Teams

PAXTON, Mass.—Five members of the Anna Maria College football team earned Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) All-Conference recognition, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

OFFENSE

Senior offensive lineman Kevin Grey (Middleboro, Mass.) was named an offensive ECFC All-Conference Second Team selection for the second-straight season. Grey, a three-year team captain, provided senior leadership to a young offensive line. As a unit, the AMCAT offensive line blocked for 1,140 team rushing yards and aided the offense to six rushing touchdowns in 2015.

DEFENSE

Also appearing on the All-Conference squad for the second time is senior linebacker Mike Sinto (Long Beach, N.Y.) and junior punter Stefano Marziale (Cranston, R.I.). Both players were named defensive ECFC All-Conference Second Team selections.

Sinto paced the AMCAT defense with 85 tackles in his final season. He tallied a team-leading 14 tackles-for-loss on the season, including a 17-yard sack against Mount Ida. He had the best defensive performance of his career in Anna Maria's 24-20 win against Gallaudet in week nine when he totaled a game-high 15 tackles, including two in Gallaudet's final offensive drive. Sinto repeats as a second-team all-conference selection after also earning the recognition in 2014.

Marziale led the league in total punting yards (2,117) and average yards per punt (37.1). He booted a season-long punt of 65 yards against Husson this season and also averaged a season-best 50.7 yards per punt in the same game. He had five punts land inside the 20 in 2015, including one in each of the last two games against Gallaudet and Becker. Marziale repeats as an all-conference selection after earning first team punting honors in 2014.

HONORABLE MENTION

Freshman kicker Francis Cole (Maspeth, N.Y.) and senior defensive lineman Tyler Rocha (Cranston, R.I.) were both named to the ECFC All-Conference Honorable Mention team.

Cole made an immediate impact to Anna Maria's kicking game in his rookie season, hitting 78 percent of his nine field goal attempts and 82 percent of his 11 extra-point attempts. He hit both field goal attempts in his rookie debut against Coast Guard and had another 2-for-2 day against Mount Ida, in which he hit his season-long of 42 yards.

Rocha had a breakout season for the AMCAT defense as a senior and led the team in sacks. He also added a second-best 53 tackles, including nine in each of the last two games against Gallaudet and Becker.

MAJOR AWARDS

Husson running back John Smith earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, while his teammate Bryant  Wade, a linebacker,  was named the ECFC Defensive Player of the Year. Norwich kicker/punter Wesley Medeiros was named the Special Teams Player of the Year, while Castleton's freshman running back was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. Becker head coach Mike Lichten was recognized as the ECFC Coach of the Year.
