Football Closes Out Regular Season With 58-23 Win Over Spartans

PAXTON, MA. – On Saturday, November 11th the Anna Maria College Football team hosted the Castleton University Spartans for the last game of the ECFC 2023 regular season. The AMCATS won the game 58-23.

Quick to start, the Spartans were the first on the board with Christian Keeli scoring off an 84 yard run making it 7-0 just under three minutes into the first quarter. The AMCATS would be quick to answer back with Deandre Wallace scoring off a 48 yard pass from Ryan Russell to tie the game at seven a piece. After some back and forth, the AMCATS would be the last to score in the first quarter as Justin Brown ran in the AMCATS second touchdown of the day making it 14-7 with just about thirty seconds left in the first quarter.

The next points of the game would come off the boot of Ryan Kent as he kicked in a 30 yard field goal, increasing the AMCATS lead to ten with just over nine minutes left in the second quarter. The AMCATS would continue their momentum as Ryan Russell found Deandre Wallace twice within a minute, each resulting in a touchdown for the AMCATS putting the score at 31-7 with just under three minutes left to play in the second quarter. As the clock ran out, neither team scored again before the end of the second quarter, with the AMCATS maintaining their 24 point lead going into halftime.

Despite the resounding lead to start the third quarter, the AMCATS didn't let up scoring just under five minutes into the quarter off a 53 yard run from Justin Brown. The AMCATS would continue to pile on to the Spartans after a blocked punt was returned by Dilaver Ibrahimi for yet another AMCATS touchdown. The Surge for the AMCATS wouldn't end there, Mark Johnson Morgan was the next AMCAT to score off a 7 yard pass from Russel to make it a 52-7 game. Just when you thought the third quarter was about to come to a close, the AMCATS scored yet again after James Richards made a 5 yard run giving the AMCATS a 58-7 lead. The play wouldn't end there either, as the SPARTANS blocked the AMCATS extra point opportunity and returned the ball for a 97 yard touchdown. The Spartans would close the quarter out 58-9.

With the AMCATS still holding a commanding lead over the Spartans, the fourth quarter action came primarily from the Spartans Offense. An early touchdown with ten minutes left in the quarter would give the Spartans a spark of life. The AMCATS would manage to hold Castleton at bay for most of the quarter before giving up another touchdown with just under two minutes left to go in regulation. Still trying 58-23, the AMCATS would be the team on top as the clock hit zero on regular season play.
