Matthews Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

PAXTON, Mass.—Senior tight end Kolin Matthews (Seymour, Conn.) of the Anna Maria College football team has been named to the 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Football Team. The Division III First District includes all schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Matthews is the first AMCAT football player ever to earn this recognition.

Matthews holds a 3.83 grade-point average as a fire science major and is involved in numerous extracurricular programs at Anna Maria.  He is Vice President of the Student Government Association and Past President of the Fire and Emergency Services Association at Anna Maria. He also participates in the Delta Epsilon Signma Honors Society, the Anna Maria College Activities Board, and the Campus Ministry Council. Matthews has also been an active participant on two campus ministry alternative spring break trips.

On the field, Matthews has played in all eight games for the AMCATS this season and leads all tight ends in receptions with 10.

Matthews is one of nine players from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) who were recognized by CoSIDA. Joining Matthews were Soren Pelz-Walsh and Jordan Stone from Castleton, Sam Chaves, Wesley Medeiros and Derek Lotito from Norwich, Jordan Hersom (Husson), Sean Fenton (Gallaudet), and Beau Warrington (SUNY Maritime).

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District™ Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.

First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
