Dincecco Gets First Win Over Mitchell College 3-2

PAXTON, MA. – On Saturday, September 30th the Anna Maria College men's soccer team hosted the Mitchell College Mariners for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 3-2.

The AMCATS started the game at a deficit, giving up a goal to the Mariners not even a minute into the first half. However despite the unfortunate circumstances, the AMCATS scratched back quick with a goal just four minutes later from Hezekiah Adeyeye to tie the game up at one a piece. The AMCATS would battle on for nearly twenty five minutes before the Mariners took back the lead with a goal from Nick Ghirardi. The Mariners goal would be the last we saw throughout the rest of the first half putting the AMCATS behind 2-1 going into the intermission.

Spending over fifteen minutes of the second half with no goals scored, the AMCATS finally caught a break after Matthew Pearle put away the game tying goal off a corner kick from Rubelsi Moran. The AMCATS didn't let up, putting up numerous scoring opportunities before finally taking the lead at the 80 minute mark when Gabe Teller set up Adeyeye for the AMCATS game winning goal. Holding down the fort for the rest of the half, the AMCATS ran the clock down, securing their first win of the 2023 season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This marks the first win for the AMCATS new head coach Joseph Dincecco.
  • Valter Santiago stopped 2 of his 4 shots faced.
  • Hezekiah Adeyeye scored his first two goals of the season.
