Women's Hockey Faces Heartbreaking OT Loss To Raiders

WORCESTER, MA. – On Friday, February 9th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Rivier Raiders at the Buffone Arena in Worcester, MA, for an ECHA matchup. The AMCATS lost 2-1 in overtime.

Scoreless at the end of the first period, the AMCATS lead the way as they outshoot the Raiders 12-6. It wouldn't be until about halfway through the second period that the AMCATS managed to get one past the Raiders goaltender as August Otto scored with the assists from Julia Ballinger and Carissima Heinis.

It was not soon after the AMCATS goal that the Rivier Raiders would bounce back and tie the game in the second period off a power play goal coming from Molly Dukesherer. The action would go back and forth but would remain tied at the end of the second period. The third period would be quiet for scoring however neither team would manage to take a lead before the end of the third resulting in a five-minute overtime period.

Overtime would go back and forth while both teams had chances in the overtime period. It was with one minute left on the clock that Jordyn Bleaney would hit the pipe in overtime for the AMCATS. It would be a tight battle back and fourth but as the seconds wound down on the clock Rivier would go on to win the game with 9.6 seconds left on the clock in overtime coming off the stick of Briana Paxson assists from Tia Picardi and Jillian Hallee to secure the overtime win for the Raiders.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

Sam Dahill stopped 35 of 37 shots in the 2-1 OT lost.

August Otto scored her second goal of the season.

• The AMCATS are now 5-2-2 in conference play.

WHAT'S NEXT:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, February 10th where they will travel to Nashua, NH to take on the Rivier Radiers . Opening puck drop is set for 3:10pm.
