Women’s Hockey Can’t Come Back Against Bison

WORCESTER, MA. – On Saturday, January 6th the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team hosted the Nichols College Bison at the Buffone Skating Arena in Worcester, MA. The AMCATS lost the game 3-1.

Quick to score in the first period, the Bison were the first on the board after Anneliese Klein found the back of the net off a cut through the slot. Struggling to bring the game back to even, the AMCATS couldn't find many opportunities on the offensive end. It wouldn't be until late in the first period that Shayla MacDonald broke the ice for the AMCATS, scoring off a pass from Carly Drew to make it a 1-1 game. unfortunately for the AMCATS the celebration was short lived as the Bison took back the lead just ten seconds later off the stick of Victoria Khou. The late goal put the AMCATS at a 2-1 deficit going into the second period.

With no scoring throughout the second period, the AMCATS found themselves in need of a goal with just twenty minutes left to play. Despite seeing five power play opportunities throughout the third period, the AMCATS couldn't capitalize on any of them, thanks to the Bison goaltender Anamary Pulgar who stopped all 12 shots that came her way. The Bison would go on to kill off their final penalty of the game and managed their third and final goal of the night just seconds after going back to even strength. The late insurance goal came from Cela MacDougall with just five minutes left to play in the third period. Unable to close the gap, the game would end with a score of 3-1 in favor of the Bison.
